LAKE CHARLES, La. (AP) - The Chennault International Airport Authority wants to expand the airport's operating area by several dozen acres.
The authority board on Wednesday will vote on whether to give Randy Robb, executive director, the OK to enter into a purchase-sale agreement for 38 acres.
The American Press reports the board must pass a resolution because a state grant will be used to pay for the property. Robb said 29 acres will be allocated for Chennault's runway protection zone.
Robb says the property was appraised at about $580,000, and the state grant could contribute as much as $500,000.
The other land up for purchase is a nine-acre trailer park near Sowela Technical Community College.
