A Lake Arthur woman has died in a two-vehicle crash in Jeff Davis Parish. State Police say the crash happened at 6:30 Sunday morning on U.S. Highway 190 at Louisiana Highway 99. Troopers say a 2005 Buick driven by 68-year-old Alice Landry was traveling north on LA 99 when she failed to stop at a stop sign at U.S. 190. The vehicle Landry was driving was struck by a 2001 Mercury heading eastbound. The Mercury was driven by 20-year-old Sierra Leonard of Elton. The crash severely damaged both vehicles.
Troopers say lthough she was wearing a seatbelt, Landry was pronounced dead at the scene due to injuries caused by the severe impact into the driver's side of the car she was driving.
According to troopers, Leonard and an 11-month-old infant that was also in the car were transported to a Lake Charles hospital with moderate injuries. Leonard was not wearing a seatbelt and investigators suspect the child seat was not properly installed.
Routine toxicology samples were obtained from each of the drivers and will be submitted for analysis. The crash remains under investigation.
