Some Lafourche Parish officials are talking about the possibility of consolidating dozens of government boards.
There are 66 boards operating in Lafourche Parish. Eleven of those are state-mandated. The reach and authority of those boards vary greatly. Some are subjected to more oversight than others.
Parish council members say consolidating them could diminish the possibility of abuse of powers - or inadvertent legal infractions such as one involving a drainage district.
The district's former Secretary-Treasurer was given increases in his starting compensation during the 45 years he served, with nobody apparently realizing that state law limited his compensation to $250 a month.
