Three Lafourche Parish councilmen walked out of a council meeting in protest of a measure asking Parish President Charlotte Randolph to resign because of ethics violations.
The Courier reports Councilman Jerry Lafont pulled his support Tuesday after hearing opposition from other councilmen and that effectively killed the resolution before it made it to a vote.
Lafont proposed resolution asked Randolph to resign after being fined $10,000 and ordered to pay back $50,000 in money she received for renting her camp to BP in the wake of the 2010 Deepwater Horizon oil spill.
State ethics authorities recently ruled the deal violated state law because she rented out the camp while the parish was under a $1 million contract with the energy exploration giant.
Randolph is appealing the fine.
