LAFAYETTE, La. (AP) - Lafayette Parish School Board has voted
unanimously to allow its president to negotiate a possible contract
extension for Superintendent Burnell Lemoine.
The board evaluated Lemoine's performance Wednesday, giving the
superintendent a cumulative average of 6.92, rounded to a 7 on an
8-point scale. Last year, the board's rating was 6.77, which was
also rounded to a 7.
Lemoine was appointed superintendent in 2007 after the board
terminated the contract of James Easton.
Lemoine's contract ends in December, but the superintendent has
said he'd be willing to work through the end of the academic year,
if the board agreed.
Board president Carl LaCombe will oversee the negotiations with
Lemoine and may have a recommendation for the full board to
consider in September.
