Lafayette Sobriety Checkpoint

On Friday August 27, 2010 between the hours of 9:00pm and 3:00am, officers with Lafayette Police Department, in conjunction with the Lafayette Sheriff's Department conducted a sobriety checkpoint in the 3900 Blk. W. Congress St. A total of 680 vehicles drove through the checkpoint. Officers tested 8 drivers, of which 2 drivers were charged with OWI. A third person was arrested for possession of narcotics. Officers issued 12 citations and 1 vehicle was towed for no proof of insurance.

The Lafayette Police Department will continue to proactively enforce OWI laws and strongly encourage the use of designated drivers.
