The Lafayette Sheriff's Department held its 2nd annual Homeless Connect event today.
The purpose is to educate the homeless about the different services available to them.
Three months ago 27 year old Aaron Morgan was laid off from the offshore job he had been working for the last two years.
Jobless, Morgan says he was arrested and put on probation.
Then he made what he calls the biggest mistake of his life when he showed up to court high and was arrested.
Once released Morgan had nowhere to go but Lafayette Streets.
He says he continued making one bad choice after another.
It's people like Aaron Morgan is why the Lafayette Sheriff's Department started the event.
Morgan says this event along with the sheriff's work-release program offered him a lifeline.
"I've been sober for about a month and they're helping me trying to find a new job, and i have a place to stay right now," says Morgan.
