Lafayette Sheriff's Office uses terrorism law to charge suspects in May shooting

Four people have been arrested in connection with the May shooting death of Ray Ryan, 43, who lived in the 200 block of Marigny Circle in Lafayette Parish. Investigators say three men and one woman intimidated Marigny Circle residents to commit crimes. "It was during the course of such activities that Ray Ryan was shot and killed," said Lafayette Sheriff's Capt. Kip Judice. All four are accused of violating the state's terrorism statute. Eric Johnson, 44, also known as Vicious, Phillip Deen, 34, Devin Johnson, 24, and Rebecca Seraile, 20, have been arrested.

"Marigny Circle area has been the subject of additional resources from the Lafayette Parish Sheriff's Office in recent years in an effort to reduce and eliminate criminal activity. Sheriff's Office personnel have partnered with this community to provide after school tutoring, community garden activities, directed patrols and the presence of a Community Services Deputy for 8 hours a day along with other efforts to help the community improve their quality of life," said Judice.

Anyone having information about these activities, including the murder of Ray Ryan, is encouraged to call the Sheriff's Office at 232-9211. The investigation is ongoing and additional charges and arrests are expected.
