LAFAYETTE, La. (AP) - The Lafayette Parish Sheriff's Office has received approved from the parish's planning commission to move forward with construction of a new law enforcement facility.
There was no public opposition to the
plans during Monday's meeting of the commission.
Rob Reardon, director of corrections for the sheriff's office, said the complex will mostly include work-release facilities, as well as a 10,000-square-foot warehouse.
Reardon says officials are still in the design stages.
Officials hope the new facility will help alleviate congestion at the Lafayette Parish Correctional Center and other sheriff's office's buildings, most of which are severely overcrowded.
