The Lafayette Parish School Board will spend a large part of this Saturday contemplating the future of the school district.
Starting at 8 a.m., the board will meet with members of the administration and the community to discuss how it will make improvements to its infrastructure -- and most importantly, how it will pay for them.
In a spreadsheet published today, the administration lays out five tax options -- varying from a half-cent sales tax combined with a 16-mills property tax to a straight 25 mills levy -- to offset the projected $33 million in additional revenue needed to accomplish the upgrades.
The four-item agenda touches on discussion of recommendations from the Community Education Plan Committee, a review of the funding options that support those recommendations, how the district will utilize its $8.8 million surplus, and creating a master project list that combines the previous administration's Master Facilities Plan with the current administration's principal's list of needs.
The retreat will be held in the school board meeting room, 113 Chaplin Drive in Lafayette.
