A lengthy process to let Lafayette Parish voters decide whether to support new taxes for the school system is moving to the next phase.
Before any tax proposal winds up on a public ballot, it must first make it past the Lafayette Parish School Board. The board is scheduled to have a retreat on Nov. 16.
The Community Education Plan Committee suggested possible discussion items for the retreat. Those items include prioritizing school facility needs, creating a comprehensive marketing plan for a tax proposal and addressing other issues that might be on the minds of voters when they think about local schools.
Overall, the district needs an infusion of about $500 million over the next several years if it is to meet all of its needs.
