High school students throughout Lafayette Parish started block scheduling seven years ago, but Wednesday evening at the Lafayette Parish School Board Meeting administrators voted to eliminate block scheduling and go to traditional scheduling which is a seven period day. It was a six to three vote to end block scheduling.
Several principals voted for the traditional schedule because students are taking eight classes a year and by the time they're seniors some take only one class.
However, many students argued that block scheduling would would mean they would have to eliminate some of the electives they looked forward to taking.
