LAFAYETTE, La. (AP) - The applicant pool for Lafayette Parish School System superintendent has reached a dozen at the close of the fourth week of the application period.
The Advocate reports former New Orleans Recovery School District charter school director William E. Butler applied for the job earlier last week.
Butler now lives in Pine Bluff, Ark., and was most recently employed as an interim science specialist at the Math and Science STEM Center with the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff.
The application period for the job closes Sept. 12, with the school board paring down the pool to the top 10 for interviews in October. The board plans to choose a new superintendent by Dec. 7. Current Superintendent Burnell Lemoine's contract ends Dec. 31, and he plans to retire.
