LAFAYETTE, La. (AP) - A law that requires school bus drivers to report their drunken driving arrests took a Lafayette Parish school
bus driver off the streets.
The Lafayette Parish Sheriff's Office says that
50-year-old Jewel Jolivette was arrested Saturday and charged with operating while intoxicated and failure to signal a turn without an accident.
School officials say Jolivette is a contract bus driver and was
not on duty at the time of the arrest.
Mona Bernard, risk management director for the school system,
said Jolivette complied with a law that took effect Jan. 1 and
reported her arrest to the school system.
Bernard said the superintendent and staff will review the
incident before taking action against Jolivette.
