Lafayette school board to revamp attendance policy

LAFAYETTE, La. (AP) - Lafayette Parish School Board members would be able to miss up to five meetings in a calendar year before facing penalties under a revised attendance policy recommended by the board's executive committee.

The revisions, which come after some board members have faced criticism for their absences, would clarify some of the provisions in the existing policy.

The Advertiser reports the recommendations came after a Friday meeting of the board's executive committee.

Under the proposal, members could miss up to five regular, special or committee meetings during a calendar year before facing possible forfeiture of $100 per missed meeting. The current policy does not specify a time frame for missing the meetings.

The full board is expected to review the recommendations at the April 3 meeting.
