The Lafayette Parish School Board unanimously denied a charter application for a new career and technical high school during its meeting tonight.
Unlike the three charter schools scheduled to open this fall, school system staff and a third party reviewer recommended that the board deny the charter application made by Kingdom Builders Community Development Corporation
The application was submitted by an independent, local group headed by a Lafayette Parish assistant principal. The school can still apply for a state charter from the Board of Secondary and Elementary Education.
The third party review of the application said it did not "fully articulate the theory of change," and had a weak budget with little plans to pay for expensive equipment needed for a career and technical high school.
