Lafayette is the fastest growing city in the state of Louisiana. To keep up
with the city's rapid growth, parish and city leaders have been searching
for a firm to help develop a comprehensive plan for Lafayette's
narrowed their search down to four companies.
Thursday representatives from each firm took part in a public meeting held
in Lafayette; they shared some of their visions for the city's future with
residents and officials.
One firm proposed to remodel downtown Lafayette and other companies proposed
build more roads.
One resident says he's optimistic about the city's growth; however he hopes
the city doesn't lose its identity. ""The culture is important to us and we
don't want to get to the point where we lose it," said Gerald Dunbar.
The city-parish president, Joey Durel says a comprehensive plan will be a
success if the city avoids past mistakes and plan well. "If we take some
control over our future and destiny to where we're not spending so much
money that will put strain on tax dollars then the plan will be a great
investment," said Durel.
Wallace Roberts and Todd is the firm that's recommended by the advisory
members. The next step is for city and parish officials to get a final vote
from the city-parish council.
