Lafayette's Boudin Cook-Off will, once again, bring together the top professional and amateur boudin makers from across Louisiana and there will be more than a ton of boudin to sample in three categories - traditional, specialty and "unlinked" (not in the casing). The free event will be held Oct. 16 from 10:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. in downtown Lafayette, at Parc Sans Souci (201 E. Vermilion St.) This is the third year for the event. Robert Carriker, an organizer, is pleased with the new and returning participants. "This year we have new teams coming from around Acadiana, west Louisiana and even a team coming over from Florida," says Carriker. "They're bringing their best boudin and everyone who comes has the opportunity to help decide the People's Choice winner." Festivities include music by the Specklers and Thomas "Big Hat" Fields and His Footstompin' Zydeco Band, free fun jumps, free ice cream sandwiches from Borden's, cooking demos from Tony Chachere's cooking team, a free "boudin toss," a Boudin-eating contest, and free face painting. "We've added some new events this year. The music is going to be great and the teams are coming with some great new boudin recipes to try out," reports Carriker. There will be food, product giveaways, prizes, refreshments and fun for the whole family with proceeds to benefit the Historic Preservation Alliance of Lafayette. Boudin sampling begins at 10:00 a.m.; boudin sample tickets may be purchased for 50 cents. Ample free parking is available downtown adjacent to the park.
