Lafayette police working bank robbery; J. Wallace James on lockdown

Update, 12:22 p.m.: KATC's Kari Beal is reporting that police are chasing the suspect in the area near the credit union. Kari also says four police officers have been stationed outside of J. Wallace James Elementary School. Officers tell Kari that the move is protocol for a situation like this.

Lafayette police are on the scene of a bank robbery.

The incident took place at a credit union in the 1400 block of West Willow Street. Police say they are searching for a black male who had his face covered. Police say they have no other information about the suspect at this time. A perimeter has been set up in the surrounding area.

J. Wallace James Elementary School, which is a block away from the credit union, is currently on lockdown while police work the perimeter. School board officials say they have not been given a timetable as to when the lockdown will be lifted.
