Lafayette police shooting turned over to district attorney

The Lafayette Parish District Attorney's Office will decide whether a police shooting in December will go to grand jury. State Police are finished with its investigation into the shooting death of Quamaine Dwayne Mason, according to Trooper Stephen Hammons. Mason, 21, of Carencro, was shot at Campus Crossings Apartments on Theater Street on Dec. 9, 2011.
Troopers say Lafayette Police officers were called to the apartment complex in reference to an armed robbery. As officers arrived, they encountered the suspect exiting the building and was found to be armed. State Police say multiple shots were fired at the suspect.
