Lafayette Police Seek Suspect in Morning Shooting

Lafayette, LA - On July 28, 2012, at approximately 6:30 am, Lafayette Police responded to a residence in the 600 block of Goldman Street regarding a shooting. When officers arrived they discovered a 20 year old male of Baton Rouge lying in the yard with a single gunshot to the chest. The victim was transported to an area hospital and is listed in critical condition. According to witnesses, the victim was at the door of the residence when a verbal argument occurred between himself and the suspect. During the argument the suspect produced a handgun and shot the victim. The suspect then fled the scene.

Detectives with the Lafayette Police Department have issued an arrest warrant for Attempted Second Degree Murder for the arrest of Carl J. Phillips (32) of Lafayette. Anyone with information about the shooting or the whereabouts of Phillips is encouraged to call the Lafayette Police Department or Crime Stoppers at 232-TIPS.
