UPDATE: Lafayette Police Investigate Suspicious Death

UPDATE: As a result of the autopsy, investigators now indicate that foul play is not suspected in the death of Jesse Carvell. Investigators do not believe Carvell was involved in the disturbance on the night of his death. The disturbance is believed to have occurred on or near the intersection of Idlewood and Johnston Street. Detectives will now await the results of the toxicology report for the exact cause of death to be determined by the coroner's office. The investigation remains ongoing.

On December 25, 2009, at approximately 1:30 am, officers with the Lafayette Police Department responded to the 100 block of Brookwood Circle regarding a suspicious death. The victim, a 23 year old male of Lafayette, was being dropped off at the residence when he was found to be unresponsive. When emergency personnel arrived, the victim was determined to be dead at the residence. Investigators discovered that the victim was with friends at an establishment located at 4680 Johnston when he may have been involved in a fight that erupted in the parking lot. Two individuals with the victim climbed into a truck and fled the scene with the victim lying in the rear.

The victim is identified as Jesse Carvell (23) of Lafayette. Investigators are awaiting the report from the coroner's office for the victim's cause of death.

Detectives are asking anyone with information about the incident to call the Lafayette Police Department or Crime Stoppers at 232-TIPS.
