The Lafayette Parish City Council will be choosing a replacement for Purvis Morrison, former District 1 Councilman, January 4.

Morrison starts his new job today as Mayor of Scott.

There are five applicants for the council to choose from to fill Morrison's vacated seat.

Morrison's term, which runs until the end of 2011 will be filled by the appointee. The city-parish charter doesn't allow whomever is appointed from running for the seat in the 2011 elections.

The city council expects to swear in its appointee at the January 4th meeting.
