LAFAYETTE, La. (AP) - A police officer is on paid leave after he shot and wounded a 31-year-old Lafayette man accused of stabbing his wife with a kitchen knife during a domestic disturbance.
Police booked Johnny Reed on one count of attempted
second-degree murder after his release from a local hospital.
Cpl. Paul Mouton said that Reed's 30-year-old wife has since been released from a hospital after being stabbed multiple times.
Mouton said the stabbing occurred Sunday night.
When officers arrived at the home, Mouton says they saw Reed armed with a knife and engaged in a fight with his wife.
As Reed began to advance toward his wife, Mouton say an officer fired a single shot, striking Reed in the hip.
The officer's name has not been released.
