Two Lafayette gymnasts are competing to earn spots on the United States Olympic Team. Savannah Vinsant and Hunter Brewster recently competed in the Tulsa Olympic Trials and in the World Championships in England. Vinsant took first place in Tulsa while Brewster took eight place. Vinsant also finished seventh at the World Championships. The two are trained by six-time world champion Dimitri Poliarush, who has been coaching trampoline in Lafayette since 1998. Vinsant and Brewster will compete in two more Olympic trials--one in Cleveland later in May and another next month in San Jose. The Olympic Team will be announced on July 1.
These two Acadiana athletes will perform before their home crowd once the Olympic Games have come to an end. They will perform in the Cajundome in October when the Olympic Gymnastics Team Tour stops in Lafayette.
