UPDATE: According to the Lafayette Sheriff's Office, the victim did not die as a result of the fire; the cause of death is suicide before the fire.

Lafayette Fire Officials says there was a space heater near the bedroom. They have not yet eliminated it as a possible cause of the fire

A mobile home fire has claimed the life of a Lafayette man. Family members have identified the deceased as 54 year old Stephen Augustine (Left).

The Lafayette Fire Department was called to the Bridgewood Mobile Home Park off Carmel Drive shortly after 7:00 a.m. for reports of a fire. Augustine was found dead in a bedroom in the trailer, which is where the fire started.

Augustine's family tells KATC that he suffered some physical limitations after a work-related accident a few years back, but they don't think that would have hindered his ability to escape the fire.

The Lafayette Fire Department along with the Lafayette Parish Sheriff's office are investigating the blaze. It's unclear what started the fire.
