Lafayette man charged with alleged sex crimes

A 62-year-old Lafayette man remains in the Acadia Parish Jail charged with various alleged sex related crimes following the investigation into a complaint that was filed with the Sheriff's Office in August of 2012.

According to Acadia Parish Sheriff Wayne Melancon, warrants issued by his department were executed on September 25th by deputies from the Lafayette Parish Sheriff's Office on Franklin Monroe of Statesman Drive in Lafayette. Monroe was taken into custody without incident and transported to the Acadia Parish Sheriff's Office where he was charged with alleged Aggravated Rape, Sexual Battery, Second Degree Sexual Battery, Oral Sexual Battery, Simple Battery, Molestation of a Juvenile (2 counts).

Monroe was placed in the Acadia Parish Jail with no bond being set on the Aggravated Rape charge and a bond of $800,000 on the additional charges by District Judge Kristian Earles.

According to authorities, Melancon stated that the incidents involving juveniles occurred over a five year span.
