A 22-year-old Lafayette man was arrested for allegedly setting his residence on fire while the home was occupied.
At 2:16 AM on June 15, Lafayette Parish Sheriff's Office deputies were called to the 200 block of Elias G Road in reference to a domestic disturbance.
According to Deputies, they arrived to find that Justin Bartlett had poured gasoline onto the home that he shares with family members and ignited it. Deputies say Bartlett had been involved in a domestic dispute during the course of which he allegedly struck a family member. Shortly after deputies were called to investigate, Bartlett exited the home and attempted to set the home on fire while unsuspecting family members were still in the home.
Damage to the home was minimal and no injuries were reported due to the fire. The victim of the battery refused medical treatment.
Bartlett has been booked into the parish jail with one count of domestic abuse battery and one count of aggravated arson. Bond has been set at $20,000.00.
