LAFAYETTE, LA, MARCH 6, 2010- The Lafayette Young Lawyers Association hosted its annual Mock Trial Tournament in which 7 high school teams competed at the 15th Judicial District Courthouse on March 6, 2010. The Richard M. Ware Region III Mock Trial was held in a real courtroom setting where teams from area schools presented their cases before a presiding judge, jury of scoring attorneys, family and friends.
This year, the teams were comprised of students ranging from 9th graders to seniors from Lafayette High School, Northside High School, Cecilia High School and Episcopal School of Acadiana. The tournament consisted of three rounds, and during each round, teams were given the opportunity to play the role of plaintiff and defendant. After the second round, the two teams with the highest scores moved on to the championship round.
After a close final round and thorough arguments, Lafayette High School's team took first place over Northside's team. Lafayette High School will move on to compete in the Statewide Mock Trial competition held on Saturday, March 20, 2010 at the Rapides Parish courthouse in Alexandria, Louisiana.
