A group in Lafayette is taking extra precautions to make sure families of National Guard soldiers are taken care of when their loved one is deployed. The 256th infantry brigade will deploy for their second tour of duty overseas in January.
More than three thousand soldiers will be leaving their families behind.
Because of this, the Charlie company family readiness group is raising funds to provide for families. They hope to give families the opportunity to connect with others who are going through the same thing. FRG secretary Chris Latiolias said, "It's a support group for moms, wives, children, siblings, because we're a family unit."
The group plans to raise money by selling car magnets for five dollars and yard signs for $10. L.J. Aleman middle school, among other Lafayette businesses, recently joined the effort. In fact, the beta club is taking part in the fund raiser. The club would also like to challenge other area beta clubs to see who can raise the most money. The goal is to raise as much as possible so that FRG can host many activities for the soldiers families.
FRG group leader Phobe Boutte said, "There is strength is numbers and if you put everything together you've got quite a thing going on."
