The Lafayette Fire Department is investigating a house fire in an unoccupied home. Lafayette firefighters responded to a reported house fire around 10:42 Saturday night at 2111 Ambassador Caffery Parkway. When firefighters arrived, they say the house was fully engulfed in flames, coming from the roof. Firefighters battled the blaze for an hour before getting it under control. The home sustained heavy fire damage.
No one was in the home, and investigators say the home has been vacant for ten years. Investigators also say there were no utility services to the home, and the house was part of an estate going through succession.
Fire investigator say at least two homeless people were living in the dwelling. Witnesses say they have noticed the individuals going in and out of the home for weeks. Investigators say the homeless individuals were not on the scene when firefighters arrived. A neighboring occupant stated that he seen them leave the dwelling about an hour before the fire was reported.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation. Anyone with information is asked to call Lafayette Fire Department at 291-8716 or Crimestoppers at 232-TIPS.
