The Lafayette Police Department is showing an overall reduction in all but one crime category over 2009 within the City of Lafayette. The category of Theft had an increase in numbers from the previous years. Police attribute the increase to the large number of car burglaries that occurred during the year. The Lafayette Police Department was able to make several car burglary arrests which cleared a number of these cases. Below is a chart with the 2009 Uniform Crime Report Statistics and its comparison to 2008.
