LAFAYETTE, La. (AP) - The Lafayette City-Parish Council has
voted to ban go-cups and cruising from two areas of the city.
Any open containers of alcohol would be barred from the Surrey
Street corridor and downtown Lafayette, where police say nightlife
has led to traffic and safety problems.
The cruising law would apply to the same areas. It would let
police ticket vehicles that pass the same spot more than twice
within two hours between 8 p.m. and 5 a.m.
Final votes on both ordinances are scheduled later this month.
Special events such as Downtown, Alive! and Festival
International would be exempt from the open container ordinance.
