Lafayette Could Increase in Land Size If Council Approves Annexations

LAFAYETTE, La. (AP) - The city of Lafayette could increase in

land size in the coming weeks if the city-parish council approves

several annexations.

The council will take introductory votes Tuesday on whether to

annex four separate pieces of property into the city limits.

The largest proposed annexation is the 735 acres that houses the

Lafayette Regional Airport.

Also Tuesday, the council will have an introductory vote on

whether to form an official charter commission to review, study and

propose changes to the city-parish Home Rule Charter. The

commission would include nine members who would be appointed by

council members and the city-parish president.
