Lafayette Airman Killed in Motorcycle Accident

Family and friends are mourning a Lafayette airman who died after a motorcycle crash this weekend in New Jersey.
19-year-old Eugene Sonnier, III was stationed at McGuire's Air Force Base.
He was off-duty riding his motorcycle Sunday when he was involved in that early morning crash that claimed his life.
Eugene Sonnier, Jr. Deals with death on a daily basis as a funeral director at the Syrie Funeral Home.
But today, Sonnier is preparing to bury one of his own.
"I had the unfortunate opportunity to type his own death certificate", says Sonnier.
His son, Eugene Sonnier, III requested his father be the one to handle his services should something happen to him.
His father says he's proud to be the one to honor his son.
Sonnier says, "I do think it's an honor and a privilege to work alongside his mother to fulfill his final wishes".
A mother, stricken with grief, but held up by the memory and the faith of a son who was driven to join the Air Force after September 11th.
"We have his Bible here that he had at basic training where he had highlighted his favorite Bible passages. He just had such a strong will", says Norlet Pierre, Eugene's mother.
His parents, as well as others I spoke to today say they'll miss Eugene's infectious smile, and that the airman's love for all things will never be forgotten.
"He just loved the world. And I know that sounds so big but it's true", says Pierre.
Funeral arrangements are still pending at the Immaculate Heart of Mary church in Lafayette.
Lafayette Christian Academy, Sonnier's alma mater, also plans on honoring Sonnier by retiring his football jersey and dedicating a game in his honor.
