NEW ORLEANS (AP) - A Louisiana National Guard unit is in charge
at Camp Liberty in Baghdad, Iraq.
Sgt. Tresa L. Allemang, a guard spokeswoman in Iraq, says in an
e-mail that the 199th Brigade Support Battalion, 256th Infantry
Brigade Combat Team, took over garrison command earlier this month.
Lt. Col. Marc Kelly of Deville, the deputy commander for the
garrison command, says it's like running a mid-sized city.
The battalion spent three months working alongside the 561th
Regional Support Group from Omaha, Neb., before the transfer of
authority ceremony on June 6.
Col. James B. Waskom of Abbeville, the battalion's commander,
says the 561st also sent three people to Camp Shelby, Miss., to
help with training before they got to Iraq.
