BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) - The Louisiana National Guard has its first female general.
The Times-Picayune reports that Col. Joanne Sheridan is being promoted to brigadier general Friday, in a ceremony at Jackson Barracks.
Sheridan, an assistant adjutant general for the Army, will have the star attached to her uniform during a "pinning ceremony" announced by the National Guard.
A native of Leesville, Sheridan's recent assignments were vice chief of the joint staff and, before that, as commander of the 199th Regiment-Regional Training Institute at Camp Beauregard in Pineville. The 199th runs the officer candidate school and other military courses and schools.
