BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) - The Louisiana Wildlife and Fisheries Commission is considering a commercial net season on False River, an oxbow lake where nets are currently banned in Pointe Coupee Parish.
The proposed season would run from November through February and would be set up to minimize conflict with boaters and recreational anglers.
It started a largemouth bass management plan and was given trophy station in 1991, banning the use of gill nets, trammel nets and seines. The trophy status was rescinded in 1998, but the oxbow was managed as a lake of special concern.
The agency says the lake is no longer managed under trophy status, so there's no longer any need for a net ban.
