SHREVEPORT, La. (AP) - A north Louisiana man has been indicted on charges he burned a cross near an interracial couple's home to intimidate them.
The Justice Department says 30-year-old Daniel Earl Danforth, of Minden, was arrested Wednesday following his indictment last Friday for alleged civil rights violations and obstruction of justice charges.
Prosecutors say Danforth and another unidentified suspect used small pine trees to build a cross and then set fire to it outside the victims' home in Athens, La., last October.
Danforth allegedly returned to the area several days later to remove the cross after he learned FBI agents were investigating the incident.
