BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) - Hospitals throughout Louisiana have met their goal of 200,000 new organ donors, so the Louisiana Hospital Association has set a third benchmark.
President Bill Holman hopes to add another 50,000 people to the registry by the time the LHA meets in July. That would make a quarter-million new names on the rolls since the campaign began at the start of 2009 with a goal of 160,000.
The drive includes giving out organ donation forms at blood drives, adding donation information to phone messages while callers are on hold and spotlighting organ donation on local radio health programs.
Sixty-nine of the group's 153 hospitals are currently
participating in the Donate Life Louisiana Hospital Campaign.
Holman also challenges hospitals to get more actual organ donations.
