OPELOUSAS, La. (AP) - The La. Highway 104 bridge between Opelousas and Prairie Rhonde is closed for replacement.

Deidra Lockhart with the state Department of Transportation and Development, which is overseeing the $830,000 project, says the bridge will be closed until July.

Lockhart says the project will create an entirely new bridge surface for the aging structure.

The bridge is located about 1 ½ miles north of La. Highway 104's intersection with U.S. 190 on the west side of Opelousas.

During the repair process, motorists are urged to bypass the construction area by using La. 3043 to get between Prairie Rhonde and Opelousas.
