The La. Ethics Administration this week objected to the candidacy of four Ethics offenders who falsely certified good standing with the state Board of Ethics when filing papers to qualify for various elections.

The Ethics Administration filed objections to candidacy for the following: Maurice Brown (Mayor of White Castle, Iberville Parish), Thomas Kates (Mayor of Bogalusa, Washington Parish), Joel Miller, Sr. (Councilman of Bogalusa, Washington Parish), and Carol Alfred (Alderman of Ville Platte, Evangeline Parish).

The Administration was prepared to object to the candidacy of Larry Scott (Alderman of Waterproof, Tensas Parish), but Mr. Scott withdrew from the race prior to the Ethics Administration's scheduled hearing.

In qualifying for an election in La., a would-be candidate must certify that he has no outstanding penalties with the Ethics Administration for violations of the Code of Governmental Ethics or the state's Campaign Finance Act or Personal Financial Disclosure Act.
