LABADIEVILLE, La. (AP) - Assumption Parish sheriff's detectives have captured a woman wanted as a six-year fugitive on felony counts in California.
The Advocate reports deputies arrested 46-year-old Demple A. Hawkins of Labadieville on Thursday, after tracking her through a Louisiana Purchase Card. The card is used for low-income food assistance.
Authorities say San Bernardino County, Calif., deputies wanted Hawkins on a warrant for a parole violation for leaving California and an assault with a deadly weapon count.
California deputies said she allegedly stabbed her ex-boyfriend in the back on March 13, 2005, and fled the state.
