The Louisiana Democratic State Central Committee met Saturday in Baton Rouge and held an election for the open position of National DNC Committeeman. The State Central Committee reached a quorum and voted to elect John Ales, an attorney from Baton Rouge, to the position. John Ales is a Democratic State Central Committee member and is also on the Rules and Bylaws Committee. The National DNC Committeeman represents Louisiana on the Democratic National Committee (DNC) and is a liaison between the national Democratic committees and the state party.

"As a former DNC Committeeman myself, I want to congratulate John Ales on his election as DNC Committeeman for Louisiana," said Louisiana Democratic Party Chairman Buddy Leach. "I look forward to working with John as we rebuild the Democratic Party in Louisiana and I know John will fight for the resources Louisiana Democrats need."

"I am deeply honored to have been selected by my fellow Louisiana Democrats as their National DNC Committeeman," said DNC Committeeman John Ales. "I will represent Louisiana's values on the Democratic National Committee and will join my fellow Democrats in stopping the Republican attacks on Social Security, Medicare and working families in Louisiana."

Chairman Leach is also a member of the DNC as his role as Chair of the Louisiana Democratic Party gives him an automatic seat.
