NEW ORLEANS (AP) - A husband and wife from Waggaman have been sentenced for their roles in a plot to steal more than $43,000 in funds associated with a federal housing voucher program.

U.S. District Judge Kurt Engelhardt on Wednesday sentenced 46-year-old Peggy Boudreaux Wilson to one year and one day in prison and sentenced her husband, 43-year-old Lawrence Wilson, to six months of house arrest.

Before Peggy Wilson married her husband, the Jefferson Parish Housing Authority awarded her rental assistance through a program designed to help low-income residents. Federal prosecutors say she failed to disclose that Lawrence Wilson moved into her home after they married, increasing her household's annual income. Instead, she allegedly told the housing authority that her husband was her landlord and didn't live there.
