NEW ORLEANS (AP) - The Labor Department is suing a New Orleans construction company over allegations that its subcontractors haven't properly paid workers.
The lawsuit filed last week with the department's Office of Administrative Law Judges seeks to block Peter R. Pocorello Construction Inc. from obtaining government contracts for three years.
The Labor Department said the company didn't ensure that its subcontractors properly paid employees for overtime or by prevailing wage rates. Seven subcontractors allegedly owed 105 employees a total of nearly $100,000 in back wages.
The company's owner, Peter Pocorello, also is named as a defendant in the suit.
The company had federally funded contracts to build 460 apartments in New Orleans and to renovate an existing community center.
