The Krewe of Carnivale en Rio rolled tonight kicking off the Mardi Gras festivities in Lafayette.

"It's the first and the first is always the best," says one parade goer.

The Krewe of Rio parade is the biggest in Lafayette with 23 floats and over 650 riders and plenty of throws to go around. Over 65 tons of beads to be exact. That's enough to fill ten 18-wheelers.

Spectators tell us they have many different techniques to get beads, but no matter the technique, these parade goers say its all about the throws.

From the spectators to the riders everyone agrees Rio is the place to be.
