The Kidz Kabaret is presenting its first full-scale musical, "Annie Jr."
The cast, made up of 24 children ages 8 through 16, have been rehearsing all throughout July. Travis Guillory, Kidz Kabaret's artistic director, based the production on the popular Broadway musical, "Annie."
"Annie Jr." is the tale of a Depression-era spunky orphan, who is determined to find her parents. She was abandoned at the doorstep of a New York City orphanage run by the cruel Miss Hannigan.
Throughout her adventure, Annie foils evil plans, befriends a president and finds a new family in a billionaire, his secretary and a lovable mutt named Sandy. The musical features a book by Thomas Meehan, music by Charles Strouse and lyrics by Martin Chanin.
The Kidz Kabaret is a theater education program for children ages 8 to 13. Kidz Kabaret gives children an opportunity to learn about musical theater through specific curriculums. The program focuses on the talents of each individual child and gives them an opportunity to showcase their theatrical talent.
