Kidnapping suspect, and person who shot at him, wanted in Abbeville

Abbeville Police are trying to identify a kidnapping suspect and the person who was shooting at him. Police say they received a call of "shots fired" at South Bailey Street and Greene Street in Abbeville around 5:20 p.m. on Saturday.

Police say they now believe those shots were being fired at a would-be kidnapping suspect that tried to drive away, but his vehicle got stuck in a field. They say the suspect then ran through several yards, armed with a gun, until he reached the male victim on South Guegnon Street. The kidnapping suspect jumped in the victim's truck and ordered him to drive to Lafayette. Detective Leland Laseter tells us the victim called his family at 6:30 p.m. to tell them he was safe, unharmed, and driving back to Abbeville after the suspect was dropped off at an apartment complex. Police say they are working on getting surveillance video of the kidnapping suspect, as well as the person who was shooting at him to begin with.

If you can identify the person in the photo, contact Abbeville Police Department at 337-893-2511.
