Acadiana Karate and Miles Perret Cancer Services are teaming up once again to present the 7th Annual Kicks for Miles Break-a-thon will which will be held at Cajun Field on Saturday, March 31.

Students of Acadiana Karate have been pre-selling boards to the public for $4 each with all proceeds being designated to MPCS. This Saturday, the students will be breaking thousands of boards in front of a live audience using their signature karate kicks, chops, and jabs. Last year the event drew an audience of hundreds and raised over $23,000.

"The students have a great time using what they've learned in class to break their boards," said Sensei Stacey Knight Mejia, owner of Acadiana Karate. "Plus, it's more than just a skill building activity-they can see how their hard work directly helps people with cancer in our community."

This is the second year the event will be held at Cajun Field prior to the spring football game since Acadiana Karate and MPCS began the fundraiser in 2006.

"We are grateful for the generosity that Acadiana Karate contributes each year," said Miles Perret Cancer Services Executive Director Nicole Jones. "They have now donated more than $130,000 to us over the last six years. That money helps provide thousands of cancer patients in our community with emotional support, medical supplies, wellness programs and so much more, all at no charge."
